Stained glass in windows has been around since the Roman Period, they would put large pieces of coloured glass in window openings as an indication of wealth. The first evidence of stained glass with an image in it and using lead, was around the 6th. Century. Windows created by using pieces of painted images (silver staining), did not appear until several centuies later.
I use the traditional method of using pieces of coloured art glass to create my panels - no painting involved!
